Dean, School of Graduate Studies (2004 – Present)

Increased graduate enrollment from 489 to 600 students • Restructured the budgets to be consistent with the units under my authority • Managed four budgets totaling $1.3 million • Coordinated seven degrees and thirteen degree programs • Spearheaded the creation of three new graduate degree programs • Restructured the graduate admissions process • Designed and implemented operational processes and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Graduate Services Office • Worked with three deans and thirteen graduate program coordinators to maintain program quality • Promoted the online delivery of graduate courses • Monitored the on-campus, off-campus and online delivery of all graduate courses.

Chair, Department of Educational Leadership (2004 – Present)

Designed and implemented an aggressive recruitment program resulting in an increase in program enrollment from 214 students to 289 students • Recruited a diverse and talented faculty totaling 12 members • Provided academic leadership to a department that included Ed.S. and Ed.D. degree programs • Administered a million dollar budget • Initiated the online delivery of courses • Created 7 off-campus course delivery sites in South Carolina • Restructured the educational leadership program • Created new departmental structures and procedures • Created an admissions process based on the holistic assessment of each applicant’s qualifications.

Associate Professor, Department of Educational Leadership (1988 – 2004)

Taught courses in six areas: the elementary and secondary principalship, the superintendency, educational finance, leadership, change, and personnel • Directed the Minority Administrators Program (MAP) • Helped to design and facilitate a management training program for South African principals and department heads • Published five book chapters and eleven articles, wrote five sections of the training guidebook for the South Africa project, made ten paper presentations, and directed 22 dissertations.

SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, COLUMBIA, SC

Coordinator of Training Programs, Leadership Academy (1984 – 1988)

Designed and facilitated professional development programs for principals, superintendents and other school administrators in South Carolina • Helped to design and implement such training programs as The New Principals Program, Leader 1 2 3, The Superintendency Internship Program, The Business & Industry Liaison Program, and The Principal Apprentice Program • Directed assessment centers for aspiring administrators • Provided career counseling and job placement assistance to school administrators • Trained principal assessors in South Carolina, North Carolina, Baltimore, Georgia, and Texas • Served for six months as interim chief supervisor for the office.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, WINNSBORO, SOUTH CAROLINA

Principal, Winnsboro High School (1982 – 1984)

First African American principal • Led a school of 800 students and 45 teachers and staff • Supervised all aspects of the school operation, including instruction, faculty selection and evaluation, faculty and staff development, budget administration, student activities, and school-community relations • Restructured the daily schedule to increase instructional time • Improved faculty morale • Improved achievement test scores • Increased community support and parent involvement.

BELOIT PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT, BELOIT, WISCONSIN

Assistant Principal, Beloit Memorial and Aldrich High Schools (1977 – 1982)

Supervised as many as 20 teachers in various departments • Supervised freshmen through senior classes, including working with student groups and committees on fundraising, orientation, graduation, and athletic activities • Worked with faculty committees • Planned and facilitated faculty meetings • planned and implemented arena scheduling.
